The river

Verse 1
We woke to a shimmering morning glow,
The river stained in hues that autumn sows,
Amber, crimson, rust all swirling slow,
A beauty born from sorrow no one knows.

The willow branches lean down with a sigh,
As if they, too, could hear the river's cry,
Ripples dancing beneath a painted sky,
Reflecting all the colors as they die.

Chorus
And even the rain cannot wash away,
The poison that settles and chooses to stay,
For they’ll keep polluting, day after day,
The tears of the sky just add to the decay.
Once silver and pure, now tinged in grief,
Flowing through the woods like a rustling thief,
This fairytale's gone bitter, beyond belief,
A haunted reflection, fading like a leaf.

Verse 2
Fairies once whispered beneath these waves,
But silence fills the magic that they gave,
Where stories of hope and love once did brave,
Only echoes of lost wishes now behave.

The golden leaves descend on broken streams,
Kissing the surface like forgotten dreams,
Caught in the murk of poisoned autumn themes,
A fairytale unraveling at its seams.

Chorus
And even the rain cannot wash away,
The poison that settles and chooses to stay,
For they’ll keep polluting, day after day,
The tears of the sky just add to the decay.
Once silver and pure, now tinged in grief,
Flowing through the woods like a rustling thief,
This fairytale's gone bitter, beyond belief,
A haunted reflection, fading like a leaf.

Bridge
The moonlight weeps in pools of stained gold,
While shadows of old tales are left untold,
The river that once knew magic unfolds,
Now carries the weight of a story grown cold.

Outro
We woke to autumn’s beauty in disguise,
But what we saw was the truth in its eyes,
A river poisoned beneath painted skies,
And even the rain, even the rain,
Cannot cleanse the lies.
